Half-Life has been hit with a new mod featuring a tiny purple dragon instead of Gordon Freeman. A new Half-Life mod called Half-Life: Year of the Dragon features Spyro as a modernized version of the low poly PS1 days, but not as cartoony as the reignited trilogy.

You can play the full demo featuring Spyro on the Half-Life: Year of the Dragon website. A lot of the game has been modded by Magic Nipples, who redid the camera and levels for a more Spyro-esque feel.

Gordon Freeman is a lot more limited than Spyro the Dragon, who can play levels in a way Gordon cannot. Magic Nipples altered many levels in Half-Life due to the character change.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Magic Nipples revealed that his original intention was to use Mario instead of Spyro. The character was changed because Nintendo is notorious for stopping any project related to their properties.

The aim of Half-Life: Year of the Dragon was to collect and transform specific pieces of Half-Life and its DLCs into fully playable levels for Spyro, filled with collectible gems. Instead of the entire game, it will include a curated set of levels attached to the classic platformer hub world.

Magic Nipples has hinted that Gordon’s HEV suit will appear in the following demo, but he has not revealed what it would do. The entire mod is expected to be released in 2024.
