The Matrix Awakens is an Unreal Engine 5 experience exclusively on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players on either console can pre-load the demo through the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. Matrix Awakens launches on Dec. 9, revealed at the Game Awards.

Epic Games and Matrix director Lana Wachowski developed the Matrix Awakens demo and features Matrix co-stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Matrix Awakens is a short demonstration of the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, but will also is expected to have storytelling and interactive elements.

Unfortunately, the demo will not be available for PC, it is only on consoles. The exclusion of the PC is odd, considering it is usually a great platform to show off graphic capabilities.

While players probably will not be flying around as Neo doing martial arts and running on walls, the demo may give a small preview of the storyline of the upcoming movie Matrix Resurrections. The extremely brief teaser released shows a hyper-realistic Keanu Reeves raising the question, “How do we know what is real?”

This trailer led viewers to raise an even more interesting question: “Is Keanu Reeves real in the trailer?” The answer is most likely that it is a CGI model of him, which is extremely impressive and gives a taste of what players will experience in Matrix Awakens. Players can also sign up for email updates and find links to download the demo at the Unreal Engine Matrix Awakens page.
