Final Fantasy XIV’s Endwalker expansion is just hours away, and the team at Square Enix has released an update that allows players to update their game launcher in advance for PC. Here’s how you can get the downloads done before Endwalker releases.

Open the Final Fantasy XIV launcher on your PC to preload the Endwalker update for Final Fantasy XIV. Opening the Final Fantasy XIV launcher should prompt an update. If you see a Warrior of Light in Paladin armor when the launcher opens, your launcher has updated from the Shadowbringers version.

Once the launcher is open, log in with your Square Enix account. Doing so will prompt the game to download the Endwalker update. The update will clock in at just over 4 GB, and if the update is going as planned, your progress bar will fill intermittently. Once the first update is complete, your launcher should look like the image below:

Once the scheduled maintenance is complete, you’ll be able to log in to Final Fantasy XIV, and the greyed-out Play button will turn green. While the PC patch is small, a second update was announced late Dec. 2, 2021, by the team at Square Enix. Load back into the launcher after the first update is applied to initiate the second update. Once the final update is installed, the logo on the launcher will change to the Endwalker image.
