Chrono Cross follows Serge, a teenage boy who becomes swept up in a story of parallel worlds and inter-dimensional threats. While attempting to uncover the truth of his past, Serge will gain many different allies to help him in his journey, each with their own rich backstories and motivations. There are a total of 45 playable characters in Chrono Cross, meaning you’ll have plenty of options to form the perfect team. For this guide, we’ll be looking at Arni Village’s residential doggy deva—Poshul. Here’s how to recruit Poshul in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.
Note: Minor character spoilers for Poshul follow.
Where to find and recruit Poshul
Poshul is the first character that can be recruited in Chrono Cross, and there are two ways to recruit her. The first method involves presenting Poshul with her favorite meal—a Heckran Bone. This must be done while Serge is still in Home World, however, and should be done before collecting Komodo Scales at Lizard Rock. To find the bone, first, make sure you’re in Arni Village and head to the hut closest to the village’s exit, inside of which you’ll find a restaurant called Wild Hungryman.
Take the stairs in the back of the restaurant, which leads into another room with a bed, chest, and small dog-like creature. Stand in front of the bed on the left-hand side, then press A to find a Heckran Bone hidden underneath. From there, make your way over to Poshul in front of the Mayor’s House. Press Y to open up your Key Items menu while standing in front of Poshul, then select the Heckran Bone to initiate a dialogue sequence that ends with the over-sized furball joining Serge’s party.
If you happen to have missed the Heckran Bone, however, you’ll still have one more chance to recruit her later on—after refusing Kid’s offer to join your party while in Another World, Leena and Poshul will both automatically join your party the following day.
Poshul’s abilities
This sassy canine companion uses her paws in combat, relying on her high strength stat to deal some hefty damage. Her innate element is Yellow, the elemental color closely associated with earth and lightning, meaning she’ll benefit the party most when facing off against opponents with an innate Green element. When using the K9-Ball tech, Poshul curls her body into a ball before launching herself into opponents, ricocheting between them like a pinball.
The Doggy Dunnit tech allows Poshul to harness a swirling cyclone of Yellow energy, then launch it toward foes to flatten them into the ground. Poshul is a fantastic character to recruit early on due to her high health and attack stats, and her innate element of Yellow makes her a viable threat to any Green enemies you encounter. If you’re looking for an adorable canine companion, make sure to recruit her before it’s too late!
