Before the end of 2022, Blizzard is planning to release World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion, Dragonflight. Speaking with PCGamer, game director Ion Hazzikostas said that this expansion would have a “more focused public test period” and now they have launched the first phase of the closed alpha test in July. For those of you who want to get a taste of what is to come, here’s how you can sign up for the World of Warcraft (WoW) Dragonflight expansion alpha test.
Signing Up for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Closed Alpha Test
Opting in to join World of Warcraft: Dragonflight closed alpha test is actually pretty simple — however, of course, whether or not you’ll be invited is another thing entirely. Here’s how you can sign up to become an alpha tester and join the test:
- Sign up for the Beta Opt-In on the Dragonflight product page.
- Once selected to be an alpha tester Blizzard will send out invitations regularly during the test period.
- Wait until you’ve received a confirmation of the invitation for the test.
- If you’ve been selected, open the Battle.net app.
- Select World of Warcraft from the Games list.
- In the selector above the Play button, change your Region/Account to “Alpha: Dragonflight.”
- Click Install to download the Dragonflight alpha.
- Once done, click Play.
- You can make a new character or copy one from your account using the Copy Character button.
- If you have issues with the alpha, check out Blizzard’s official Dragonflight Troubleshooting guides for more details.
Keep in mind that, unlike Overwatch 2‘s Watchpoint Pack ownership privilege, pre-purchasing the Dragonflight expansion won’t guarantee a spot for alpha/beta access.
July 14, 2022, or the first phase of WOW: Dragonflight closed alpha test focuses on a number of new features, including Azure Span Zone, the Dracthyr Race, the Evoker Class, and Dragonriding. Meanwhile, pre-existing Classes and Professions will also get a tweak, and WoW is getting its first UI change in 18 years.
World of Warcraft and the Shadowlands expansion is available on PC via Battle.net.
