This is easy to turn off—simply locate the ! with the two half circles underneath your quest bar. Press this to turn off auto-run and explore the world freely.

Auto quests have the same On and Off toggle that auto-run has. Simply press the same ! button as before, and your character will stop running toward your quest marker. If you need to turn it on again, just press the button once more.
