Weapon camo is proof of skill and prestige in the Call of Duty series. Obviously, one of the most sought-after camos to bling up your gun is the extremely flashy Gold camo. Before you start grinding, though, here’s a quick explanation about the Gold camo system and how to unlock it in COD: Modern Warfare 2.
Unlocking Gold Weapon Camo in COD: Modern Warfare 2
In COD: Modern Warfare 2, weapon camo is separated into two different types:
- Universal camos.
- And Completionist camos.
Gold camo is part of the Completionist camo type, which consist of four tiers: Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion camos. Although the Universal camos can be given to all weapons when you’ve obtained them, Completionist camos are only available for the particular weapon you unlocked it with. So, for example, if you’ve only unlocked Gold camo for M4, then it is only available for the M4 Weapon Platform.
For the Gold camo, you must complete all of a weapon’s Camo Challenges to unlock the weapon’s Gold Mastery Camo Challenge. Generally, this is the list of all Universal Camo Challenges:
If you think this is bad, it gets worse for the other Completionist camos:
- Platinum Mastery Camo Challenge will be available after you have unlocked the Gold camo for 51 weapons
- Polyatomic Mastery Camo Challenge will be unlocked once you’ve gotten 51 Platinum camos.
- And as you can expect, the Orion Mastery Camo Challenge is locked behind 51 Polyatomic skins.
51 weapons listed above means at the moment, you have to unlock the Completionist camo type for all weapons available in the base game, not counting any future updates. But, once new weapons are dropped then you can “skip” some weapons to get the Mastery Challenges — as long as you have acquired the Completionist skins for 51 different weapons.
Some players have reported that sometimes the Gold Camo Challenge objective won’t show up for some reason. You can try switching between camos, and it should appear again. A number of players also suggest playing Objective-based modes like Hardpoint, Headquarters, or Domination when you’re trying to complete Challenges since it’s easier to ambush enemies who’re too focused on running the Objectives.
Quoting the popular G.I. Joe franchise, knowing is only half the battle, so you better grind matches now to unlock all of the Gold camos in COD: Modern Warfare 2!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Battle.net.
