While the offerings at the Armoury Exchange in Warhammer 40K: Darktide are usually decent, Rejects might prefer to upgrade their current gear instead of purchasing new equipment. Such a situation is certainly the case whenever players have acquired one of the more “meta” weapons in the shop and wish to enhance it as they increase their Trust Rank. After all, it is not financially viable to continuously buy new armaments after clearing a mission or two. Upgrading gear requires specific materials, but how the enhancement system works is not as straightforward as it should be, which might cause confusion among players.

Gear Upgrades in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

To upgrade one’s gear in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Rejects must progress through their Trust Ranks until receiving a cutscene with Hadron Omega 7-7, a Tech Priest who oversees the Shrine of Omnissiah. Similar to the Armoury Exchange, the shrine is an NPC-run vendor shop where players can perform Consecration, a process identical to upgrading equipment.

Does Warhammer 40k: Darktide have solo play? Answered

To perform Consecration in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, players will need three separate resources: Credits, Diamantine, and Plasteel. These three resources are earned by completing missions and sidequests via gameplay. Credits are the main in-game currency of Darktide, which is used to buy new armaments from the Armoury Exchange. Diamantine and Plasteel, on the other hand, are much rarer to acquire. They can be found in small packets in the field during missions, and they can be earned as a reward for a mission’s completion. Regardless, players should expect to earn these two resources at a significantly slower rate than their Imperial Credits.

Moreover, another important characteristic of gear upgrades in Warhammer 40K: Darktide is that Consecration only increases the Rating and Perk count of equipment, not the base stats. For instance, if a hammer or rifle deals 54% Damage, upgrading it at the Shrine of Omnissiah will not increase this stat. Instead, the item’s rarity color will change as the armament receives a new Perk. These Perks are rolled at random and cannot be chosen by players. Fortunately, there are no useless Perks for gear in Darktide, meaning that any random Perk that Rejects receive will always be viable in battle.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
